Star Wars frenzy

As you might now, the new Star Wars movie is coming out.
We can use this trailer to introduce it in our classroom, and create a debate with our students about the past movies (whether they have watched it or not) and to talk about the story and the argument, as well as the movie director and maybe even some of the actors. We can prepare multiple listening and speaking activities based on this topic:

Once we have introduced the topic, there are multiple resources online. Check this webpage which contains different easy and fun activities that we can use in class to practice different concepts.

May the force be with you!

Google Translator

Many of us might use Google Translator as a tool when you need a quick translation or when you need help with your homework. If you are a teacher, you should also be aware of the fact that your students might use it for their homework assignments.

Well, even though it might be useful at some points, we should be aware of their usage and we should know in which contexts we can use it.

For example, to begin questioning its use watch the next video:

This is just a funny example, but think of the implications when using Google Translator with more complex texts.
This would be a good tool to show our students and talk about the usage of this tool in our English learning.

Using literature in the ESL Classroom

Do you like to read?

There has been some debate on the usage of literature in the English as a second language classroom. What do you think about its usage?
The truth is that literature is not widely used, maybe because of the curriculum constrains when teaching English. However, if we read a little about it, we will see that the usage of literature is not only beneficial but that we can do it in a lot of different creative ways.

Do you think activities related to the usage of literature in class can make it more dynamic for the students?
Check the resources available on this page  and get familiar with the usage of literature.

Accent much?

Have you ever noticed different accents in English?

Do you think you have an accent?

As you can see, we all have accents when speaking a language, even native speakers. So... there is nothing to worry about, don't you think?

Should you worry about your accent and try to improve it?
Can you try to make different accents like the video shows?
Does the same apply to your native language?

Study Management

The first thing we will take into account is how we structure our time and our study habits so that we can make the most out of our English learning experience!

For this purpose, we have created a survey that is available in another entry of this blog as well as other useful information here.

Do you think you use your time effectively?
Do you focus on your task or do you get distracted?
What tools could you use to get a better use of your time?

Welcome

Welcome to my English blog!

This blog will be devoted to different English related activities and topics. It will have both an educational purpose (for the usage of secondary education of English as a foreign language in Spain) as well as to divulge different issues related to the English language and its different cultures.
